Restored the Crucifixion of Donatello

Presented in Florence restoration work of the bronze relief depicting the Crucifixion realized by Donatello in 1455 that. and now preserved in the National Museum of the Bargello, Exhibition dedicated to the artist in Florence.
Conducted by Ludovica Nicolai under the direction of Beatrice Paolozzi Strozzi, former Director of the National Museum of the Bargello, intervention is the second project carried out as part of the inaugural "Prize Friends of Florence International Art and Restoration in Florence”, initiative strongly supported by the non-profit foundation Friends of Florence this year, now in its second edition, decide the new project winner Saturday 15 novembre alle ore 12 during the International Art and Restoration in Florence at the Fortezza da Basso.
The restoration lasted about six months and for a total cost of about 20 thousand euro, with the help of Janet and Jim Dicke II.
Just one year from the financing of the restoration of the beautiful Madonna and Child with Angels Dello Delli – Ilaria says Ciseri, Director of the Bargello – Foundation Friends of Florence returns to offer to the National Museum of the Bargello an outstanding recovery, the extraordinary relief of the Crucifixion, that between the bronze David and St. George, shows us once more in the unsurpassed genius of Donatello”.
It is not certain the date of completion of the bronze panel, which dates back to the stage of old age and was executed by the artist with the technique of “stiacciato”, nor its primary target. However, the work is documented in the Medici inventories since 1560, was then exposed to the Uffizi in 1769 and, from 1870, al Bargello.
To perform the restoration, The bas-relief was removed from its usual place, separated from the wooden frame and place it on the table before working then on a tripod specifically designed, in a small "site visit" set up inside the Donatello Room.
