Nascoste e poco conosciute, le Case del Celio sorgono tra le fondamenta della Basilica dei Ss. Giovanni e Paolo: interamente al coperto, sono riuscite a mantenere intatte le loro peculiarità, conservando affreschi, ninfeo, mosaici e suggestive sovrapposizioni. Per gli oltre venti ambienti ipogei disposti su diversi livelli il giovane scultore romano ha progettato un percorso scandito da monumentali strutture primarie, ripetendo ed alternando la figura archetipa del cerchio a quella del parallelepipedo. Prendendo in esame tanto le caratteristiche materiali che immateriali del luogo, Milia sceglie gli elementi naturali di acqua ed aria come simbolo e filo conduttore per reinterpretare e dialogare con le Case Romane e la loro storia: il passaggio da una stanza all’altra alterna vani immersi nel blu a spazi di luce pura, in un continuo rimando a quelle sostanze portatrici di vita, così significative tanto nella consuetudine pubblica e sociale romana che in quella privata della domus.
