The’European Institute of Design continues with the development plan and chooses Palazzo Pucci N6 for the expansion of the IED Florence headquarters. An integral part of the history of the city – symbol in the world of an Italian fashion of excellence – is the Palace where in the 1947 the Marquis Emilio Pucci decides to establish the’headquarter with the laboratories and tailors to create his brand. Palazzo Pucci, private residence of the family since the 15th century, today it is home to Emilio Pucci Heritage Hub, universe made of passion, creativeness, tradition and innovation, italianness. Here in March 2023 the new IED Firenze spaces will be inaugurated on the first floor, to allow young designers to study and design in classrooms and laboratories that talk about history and cultural heritage, of made in Italy, of creativity and craftsmanship.
“We maintain a high level of attention towards Italian students to equip them with the tools necessary to pursue a successful future, at the same time, we aim to increase international students who in the recent past were four times more numerous in the city of Florence. In fact, IED wants to intercept the growing number of students who come from Asia and the Americas to study in Europe” states Francesco Gori, Chief Executive Officer of the IED Group.
The primary objective of the IED Group remains that of continuing to meet the increasingly demanding expectations of Italian students and create new conditions to accommodate significant international flows. Florence is an open-air museum, a city where the contamination between art and fashion is increasingly alive and being able to complete part of one's training course in a historic building, still inhabited by the Pucci family, offers a unique perspective: means having the opportunity to look at the past to plan for the future, in a society that does not set limits. Today's students are citizens of the contemporary era and their choices anticipate the direction that will lead to social changes and urban evolution.
“We are happy to welcome IED students to Palazzo Pucci N6 in the halls that housed the company that my father founded. Credo – in fact – that these spaces have an intrinsic value as he himself used to say “only something beautiful can be created here” states Laudomia Pucci, President Emilio Pucci Heritage.
“The architectural beauty of Palazzo Pucci is evident, but this Palazzo in the heart of Florence is also a historic place of worship for Italian and international fashion. Studying fashion design right where Emilio Pucci created his garments will be a great emotion for our students. Fashion as well as training needs to rediscover its experiential component and return to excite” aggiunge Danilo Venturi, Director of IED Florence.
The IED Florence development plan also includes the decision to call Florence i big names in international fashion to accompany students in their studies and help them realize their potential in wider horizons, sharing their skills and experiences with them. The occasion is given by the launch of the new Fashion Masters which, first, expect involvement in the role of Mentor of foreign professionals and concern different sectors: Danielle Kwateng, Executive Editor of Teen Vogue in New York and founder of The Volta River; Elizabeth Bowring, Director of Fashion Shows at Worth Global Style Network-WGSN in London; Theo Grassl, Member of the Executive Board of the Fashion Council and lecturer at the University of Berlin and Munich; the entrepreneur, stilista, influencer and actress Margherita Maccapani Missoni; Andrea Selvi, International Business Development & Buying Manager al Gruppo Yoox Net-A-Porter.
PUCCI PALACE
Palazzo Pucci has been the private residence of the Pucci family since the 15th century. Subsequently, starting from 1525, illustrious architects and artists carry out extensions and architectural interventions. Today all the rooms are decorated with important frescoes, canvases and sculptures including Bartolomeo Ammannati, Giuseppe Bezzuoli and George Augustus Wallis. After the end of World War II, in 1947 the Marquis Emilio Pucci, Still an officer of the Italian Air Force, creates his own fashion brand inspired by sportswear. He establishes his headquarters in the family palace and decides to use the rooms on the ground floor for laboratories and tailors, instead on the first floor he restored the large gallery, the baroque ballroom and related salons to present its collections, receiving clients and the press and opening his Florentine boutique. He immediately understands that the Palace is the perfect tool to create contrast with the modernity of his creations. Daughter Laudomia joins her father in 1985. Palazzo Pucci N6 will be the headquarters of the brand until 2017.
In 2018 Emilio Pucci Heritage Hub was born in Palazzo Pucci N6 to guard the archives and the rich heritage left by the Marquis. It is not easy to circumscribe the Emilio Pucci Heritage universe in a definition: a world made of passion, creativeness, tradition and innovation, italianness. It is an experience in which the archive space becomes an expression of the brand codes and the creative interpretation of Laudomia Pucci – President Emilio Pucci Heritage – and the team that works there. Our will is to avoid a museum of the past, and translate history into the present, its aesthetics with a fun and ironic spirit, where colors, Print, clothes, accessories, drawings, Photos, video etc. they are the basis for a third way of using the archive which contrasts with the historical decorations such as the 17th century picture gallery and the 19th century frescoes. Today we present ourselves as an immersive experience for an all-round hospitality aimed at insiders, fans and curious of every culture and generation. For those interested in learning more about the history of the brand, you can visit the website emiliopucciheritage.com, free narration of the life of the founder, and embark on a virtual tour of Palazzo Pucci N6.
In the post-pandemic period Covid-19, interpreting the request for a more restricted use of hospitality, Laudomia Pucci decides to create a contemporary living space on the ground floor of the Palazzo, an exclusive environment with a unique style that combines fashion and heritage, arte e design, an ideal lounge to enjoy a special day, to receive private guests, per meeting, events, to organize a lunch or dinner with a partner, friends or family. In summary, Palazzo Pucci N6 bears witness to an extraordinary family history, of Italian art and fashion. “It is unique” and as such, it is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for all who cross its threshold, physically or virtually.
