“Filippo de Pisis botanical flâneur” a Milano

At the Fondazione Milan Current, It is being shown Filippo de Pisis botanical flâneur. L’erbario ritrovato: flowers collected, painted flowers where the works in watercolor floral subject of dialogue with the herbarium sheets that the Ferrarese painter still composed teenager.

The cue exposure arises from the publication of the book Filippo de Pisis botanical flâneur – a young man between herbs, city, poetry, the work of Paola and Rossella Marcucci Roncarati riaccorpare addressed to the herbarium sheets donated by de Pisis to the Botanical Garden of Padua and went missing, in the thirties, following a new reorganization of 600.000 sheets of the herbarium kept in the institute patavino.

The herbarium of Filippo de Pisis, It was surrounded by an aura of legendary mystery for many years, It turned out to be an important step in understanding the complex and multifaceted personality of the artist.

From an early age, the future painter manifests a curious and avid temperament of knowledge: he devoted himself to composing verses, writings and treatises, but also to the collection of pottery and ancient relics. It shows a predisposition to studying and deepening of various disciplines such as art history and literature, but also entomology and botany.

The botanist is therefore one aspect of a brilliant and tireless personality capable of transforming bike rides with his brothers into opportunities to gather and collect plants, flowers and insects and then categorize them with astonishing skill.

De Pisis, however, a botanical flâneur, "To Baudelaire": the meticulous collection of plants is not the end only dell'errare for campaigns, but is rather a means to achieve the knowledge and enjoyment of nature penetrate the mysterious charm of Creation. It collects plant samples with the wonder and the care of an esthete respecting the life of the plant and loading the gesture of a meaning almost philosophical and mystical.

The strength and beauty of the flowers that de Pisis painting is based on their knowledge of the floral types accumulated in compiling the herbarium, between days spent outdoors in erborizzare and those spent in his room "melodramatic" to study authoritative texts on botany. The skill with which de Pisis portrays her flowers, It leaves no room for invention or all'esitazione and allows, with a few clever touches, to convey the real and intrinsic beauty of the variety of colors and species.

In watercolor technique, the precise and wise in picking speeds with eyes, and with the brush, the charm of a bouquet in a jar suggests a seductive analogy with the delicate gestures, quick but accurate, the pick a flower. Both are driven by a deep sensitivity and love for Nature, from an emotional participation transportation to beauty tinged with melancholy if perceived in its transience.

The herbarium sheets and dialogue watercolors so in the intimate space of the Fondazione Corrente, suggesting a continuity and a link between the botanical knowledge and the passion for nature, between the melancholy splendor of a cut flower in a vase and the scientific value of a botanical specimen on a herbarium sheet or the ecstatic beauty of a bouquet of flowers portrait on canvas.
