A cura di Lélia Wanick Salgado, Genesis si svolge in contemporanea con altre grandi capitali (London, Rio De Janeiro e Toronto). Da queste città proseguirà il suo cammino attraverso altre tappe che la porteranno a raggiungere tutte le maggiori metropoli del mondo.

Genesis è l’ultimo grande lavoro di Sebastião Salgado, il più importante fotografo documentario del nostro tempo.

In mostra over 200 fotografie eccezionali: dalle foreste tropicali dell’Amazzonia, del Congo, dell’Indonesia e della Nuova Guinea ai ghiacciai dell’Antartide, dalla taiga dell’Alaska ai deserti dell’America e dell’Africa fino ad arrivare alle montagne dell’America, del Cile e della Siberia. La mostra è suddivisa in cinque sezioni che ricalcano le zone geografiche in cui Salgado ha realizzato le fotografie: Il Pianeta Sud, I Santuari della Natura, l’Africa, Il grande Nord, l’Amazzonia and the Pantanàl.

The sample presenta una serie di grandiose fotografie di landscape realizzate con l’obiettivo di immortalare un mondo in cui natura, animali ed esseri viventi vivono ancora in equilibrio con l’ambiente. Un’altra parte del lavoro mette insieme le fotografie che ritraggono animali, impressi nell’obiettivo di Salgado attraverso un lungo lavoro di immedesimazione con i loro habitat naturali. In mostra anche le immagini che mostrano diverse varietà incontaminate di popolazioni indigene: gli Yanomami e i Cayapó dell’Amazzonia brasiliana; i Pigmei delle foreste equatoriali del Congo settentrionale; i Boscimani del deserto del Kalahari in Sudafrica; le tribù Himba del deserto namibico; le tribù delle più remote foreste della Nuova Guinea.

In mostra sarà anche possibile vedere il film Sebastião Salgado. Fotografie che mostra serie di immagini che raccolgono alcuni dei lavori principali realizzati da Sebastião Salgado prima di Genesis. Le fotografie del film sono tratte dai progetti confluiti nei libri Otras Américas (1983), Sahel: el fin del camino (1988), La mano dell’uomo.
